How To Smart Casual: Part 1

Ah, the age old dilemma of what is smart, what is casual, and what’s just smart-casual enough you won’t make a fool of yourself. As I was once told by a fellow writer, “Don’t be that guy that wore the fedora on his first day.” You can see where I’m coming from, right? Smart-casual, the worlds most confusing hyphenated word in fashion, can obviously be a big area for error – but it doesn’t have to be.

Today, I thought to myself ‘what is smart, casual, and something in between?’

T-Shirt. Check. Straight leg, smart, minimal trousers? Check. Summer sneakers – of course, what else?

Whip the Mankle out why you’re at it, too. I don’t care if it’s not trendy anymore because Essex ruined it with their fake-bake ankles, it’s summer and socks don’t work with slip-ons. Rant over, ha.

It’s a true smart-casual look, epitomising that casual office look for a warmer day. I would throw on a nice navy jacket, linen or cotton, but I wasn’t prepared to faint today on London transport.

Smart-casual comes in many guises, as I’m planning on showing you soon. Jeans, a crisp shirt and smarter shoes or loafers give a more sophisticated vibe, or for a more on trend look, pair dark black denim with some Chelsea boots, a luxury white T-shirt (you really can tell the difference) and a denim or souvenir jacket. Make sure your accessories are top-notch with this to avoid being to casual, a stylish yellow-gold watch or dark jewellery would compliment this look perfectly.
