Why You Should Wear A Coat All Year Round: Raf Simons Mods Parka

Believe it or not we’re now in August, which is peak coat buying season for England, in more ways than one.

To stunt your Hypebeast-worthy TNF x Supreme Nuptse in 30 degree London humidity? I hope not.

Not only is the weather coat-suitable, but most shops are putting coats into huge sales. Some of my favourite coat sales are from COS, LN-CC and Matches, but we’re not here to talk sales. We’re talking about wearing coats come June, August, November or March. The coat in question? I’ve chosen a mini-grail of mine, the SS15 Raf Simons x Fred Perry Mods Parka.

Wearing a coat like the heavy-cotton parka in August isn’t such a problem. The Raf fishtail parka has an oversized hood (so it’s not constrictive) and isn’t lined, meaning you get good quality materials without the heaviness of good quality products. Investing in a summer coat doesn’t have to be something minimal in quality – just stay clear of lined garments.

If you can wear a coat and not be a sweating mess, you’re pulling it off.

But why should you wear a coat all year round? To stunt your Hypebeast-worthy TNF x Supreme Nuptse in 30 degree London humidity? I hope not.

Functionality: wearing a coat come August, paired with shorts and some durable yet summer appropriate sneakers means you know you need more space than just your shorts’ pockets. If you can wear a coat and not be a sweating mess, you’re pulling it off – and having somewhere to stick our cameras, wallets, phones and more is always handy.

Fashion: layers are cool. They always have been, always will be. Raf is a fan of textures, layers and colours, and what’s better to add these three elements to your outfit than through a unique coat? I am such a fan of basic outfits, the black denim shorts and white tee combo is a hit with me, but adding a uniquely minimalistic and artful coat to the mix livens even the most simplistic outfits up – without overcomplicating the look.

Why wear a coat come sun or cold? Because you can, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Afraid of looking like a sweaty, heaping mess? Onlookers mocking you in their short-shorts? Don’t go full YEEZY Season shearling this August, and you’re onto a winner.

I’d love to see your summer coats outfits as I’m always taking inspiration from people I follow and follow me, so send them to my IG inbox @primalguise for story features and, most likely, a chat.
