It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Adidas’ work, so I recently invested in three pairs that are sure to be key players in my summer rotation.
Adidas X Raf Simons Stan Smith ‘Cream’
I’ve wanted a pair of Raf’s for so bloody long. I’ve never been able to justify the price point of these, and nor can most people. At £225 they’re going to be the most expensive Stan Smith’s you’ll ever considering buying – but take my word for it that these are not a regular Stan. Raf overhauled the classic 70s silhouette with premium leather inside and out, the trademark perforated ‘R’ and, with what I think it the nicest touch, his faced printed onto the tongue, matching Stan Smith’s iconic logo.
The Stan Smith is one of those ‘must-have’ shoes, everyone has one. But the Raf Stan Smith? It’s a different league altogether. Not only is Raf a streetwear icon, the shoes in this cream colour way are effortlessly cool.
Understated minimalism is a key trend every season, and it works so well for Raf’s SS17 line.
Adidas X Y-3 PureBOOST ‘White’
Another luxe interpretation of a modern classic – the ultraBOOST / pureBOOST range. Most of us have a pair of mono-boost’s in our rotation, the hype is too much to ignore and Adidas are sticking boost on everything nowadays.
These SS17 Y-3 boost’s are your next-level boost sneakers. Premium materials inside and out, minimal and summer-vibe ready, the Y-3 is another Adidas success story. The colourway prior to this one, worn by F.O.G. supremo Jerry Lorenzo, sold out and started rocketing up on the resell market incredibly; so grab this one while you can. Most stores have 1-2 pairs per size so chances are your size has already sold out, but you can easily pick a pair up for less than £250 online.
Adidas ultraBOOST Uncaged ‘Oreo’
The uncaged boost came after a wave of customisers started setting their OG Ultraboost’s free from its cage, creating an even more sock-like sneaker. Adidas’ attempt had a tricky start but they’re finally starting to release some colourway’s you wouldn’t mind being seen in – specifically this oreo look.
These fit incredibly tight… just like a sock. But they’re beyond comfortable. I’ve worn them to work, standing and walking for almost 10 hours. They’re a great summer shoe, light and easy to work with most outfits – just throw on similar shades and some distressed black denim shorts and you’re ready to go.
